Should have some more action to see on the PP this year with all of the options on this squad. |

Todd Cordell: New Jersey Devils 2019-20 player profile: Wayne Simmonds - Todd.Cordell
I don't think anyone will argue that we overpaid for Simmonds based on last seasons play. Honestly, I would have handed that money to Perry instead, and he is only getting 1.5M.....However, our RW situation was unacceptable and Ray went out and got a 3RW, who could certainly become a 2RW as he improves from his injuries. I think everything went wrong for Wayne, and he really has nowhere to go but up, and who cares about a 1 year overpayment? |

You shouldn’t care about a 1 year overpayment at all. The Devils can handle it.
Don’t bank on him going up in value; he has clearly lost a step. I watched him quite a bit as he was one of my favorite players.
You’ve got a great locker room guy and a person your kids can learn from. If you accept where he is in his career, you’ll like his what he can bring to the table. A 15/15/30 guy is about right, and although he’s not an enforcer per se, he will make his presence known on the ice. I dunno if he’ll get time with Hughes, but that might bump his stats a touch. |

Simmer at 5M would be an overpay on a multi year contract, you paid a premium for a 1 year deal, Hes got all the ambition and motivation to work hard (He always does) and should be a fan favorite and great locker room presence. I think for a 1 year contract you'll be pleased with him. |

As I stated in the last sentence, I am fine with the overpayment. And I do expect his stock to go up from last season. Our RW competition is very weak, and he will likely be on the pp. Can't see him playing worse than last season. I am fine with this deal. |

I like having Simmonds on the 3rd line if he’s playing with Boqvist and Zacha. Could provide good secondary scoring. |

Where does Boqvist fit in this year?
I could see something like...
Hall Hischier Palmieri
Gusev Hughes Bratt
Boqvist Zajac Simmonds
Wood Zacha Coleman

I like that lineup. Tho if I were to tweak it, I would have Hayden on the RW, Woods scratched, and Coleman on the left. But a nice lineup regardless. |

I forgot we have Hayden 😅. We have a lot of options this season. It's going to be interesting for sure. |

Bastian didn’t look terrible last year either, he could challenge Hayden for 4th line RW as well. Have a feeling we will see a few pieces moved still. |

John Hayden put up 5 points in 54 games last year vs Miles Wood putting up 24 points in 63 games. Just saying |

Took the words out of my mouth. Hayden will be scratching and clawing to make the team and unless he is far more agressive then bastian come camp I wouldnt be entirely shocked if Bastian made it with his skating being pretty good for a large guy.
As for Wood im not sure why ppl are so fast to want to put rookies and ahlers ahead of him when he can score goals at a decent pace and play physical. Yeah last year he didnt raise his totals from the year prior but he also missed time negotiating a contract and had a couple injuries so ill take this past season as a grain of salt considering when he did play we had next to no talent on the roster anyway.
I think with the additions and ice time juggling Miles gets back to being a 15 to 20 goal scorer which is more then enough on the third line.

Thanks for saying it, because I was starting to think I was crazy.
I thought Bastian did a very nice job last year. Not sure if he can fight his way onto this roster because it sure seems pretty crowded going into camp. But that's for Hynes to work out.

Side note, we should either try to trade Hyden to Rangers for Lemieux. They'd get a guy under a cheap contract to help with their cap issues and we'd get a bit of an upgraded player. OR we can just offer sheet him below the level that requires a pick and we'd get him without giving them anything. |

I think both of them end up not making the roster. I don't think we'll risk losing Carrick to waivers since we really don't have any good call up options in the AHL. |

Unless something changed that I didn't hear about NHL gameday roster is 20 players. You get 20+3 scratches during the regular season, I think we keep 8D+13F to start with Rooney being the extra forward. |
